Every piece of personalized Jewelry from Legacy Touch is handmade with care by our team of expert artists, jewelers, and technicians. From collecting the fingerprint that is engraved on your piece to the final delivery of the finished product and every step in-between, we put abundant care into your Jewelry.

One element of your Jewelry that we are sure to pay special attention to is the rhodium plating.

What is rhodium plating?

Rhodium plating is a commonly used finish for certain types of Jewelry and Keepsakes to make them stronger. This thin layer of rhodium applied to the Jewelry or Keepsake helps prevent corrosion while adding an incredible shine to the piece it covers.

Why is rhodium plating important for Jewelry and Keepsakes?

Rhodium plating is the finish of choice for top-quality fine Jewelry and Keepsakes because of its deep, gorgeous luster and highly reflective appearance. Rhodium plating works wonders by making Jewelry and Keepsakes stronger and more scratch resistant, helping them to maintain their beauty for longer.

Which Jewelry and Keepsakes are rhodium plated?

Typically, high-quality Sterling Silver and White Gold Jewelry pieces are rhodium plated. It is standard practice to add rhodium plating to soft, malleable metals. The extra shine given to the pieces from the rhodium plating is an added bonus.

All Sterling Silver, 10k White Gold, and 14k White Gold Jewelry and Keepsakes from Legacy Touch are rhodium plated to help ensure each piece is as stunning as possible.

Cleaning Your Rhodium Plated Jewelry

To clean your rhodium plated Jewelry, please follow all instructions provided by the manufacturer.

For Jewelry from Legacy Touch, the instructions are:

Gold or Sterling Silver Lockets and Urn Pendants

Gold Lockets should be wiped clean with a soft cloth. Sterling Silver Lockets and Urn Pendants can be cleaned with a soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth. Be sure to rub gently, following the grain. Lockets and Cremation Urn Pendants carry precious photos and ashes; for this reason, they should not be submerged in water.

Other Sterling Silver Jewelry

Our other Sterling Silver Jewelry pieces can be wiped clean or treated with silver tarnish remover, following instructions. Tarnish remover should be followed with a warm soapy wash. Rinse well, and towel dry.

Other Gold Jewelry

Our other 10k or 14k Gold Jewelry pieces can be cleaned with warm water and mild dish washing soap. Soak your Gold Keepsake for 20-30 minutes in the solution. Gently clean with a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Rinse with lukewarm water to remove any soap residue. Please, no chlorine or other harsh chemicals or abrasives.

Treat your pieces with the respect they deserve, avoiding all chemicals (including chlorine), activities (sports, etc.), and hard surfaces which can be damaging to fine metals. Quality Jewelry should always be shielded from hairspray, bug spray, lotions, and swimming pools. Care for your Keepsakes, and they will return the favor with many years of cherished connection.

What to Do if Rhodium Plating Begins to Wear Off

Over time and with use, rhodium plating will begin to wear away. You can easily have your Jewelry replated by an experienced jeweler to return the piece to its original shine.

Your Jewelry is a special heirloom that you will cherish for years to come. We hope that it brings you comfort and connection through its enduring beauty. You can learn more about how we make Fingerprint Jewelry by visiting our How it Works page or by contacting us.
