Fingerprint Characteristics – What Makes Them Unique
Each personalized Keepsake or Jewelry item begins with a single, unique fingerprint. A collection of lines and grooves that forms a one-of-a-kind pattern, a fingerprint is the perfect representation of what makes your Loved One so special. Along with this pattern, there are a number of other characteristics that help determine just how unique a fingerprint is.
There are three main types of fingerprints.
The three types of fingerprints include Loops, Whorls, and Arches. Most people have Loop fingerprints, while very few have Arches. However, even if two people have Loop fingerprint types, the lines and grooves that make up the individual pattern will still be unique to each person. No one will ever share exact fingerprint patterns. In fact, even identical twins each have their own specific prints.
Fingerprint patterns will never change.
The fingerprint pattern a person is born with is the exact fingerprint pattern they will have for life. Each pattern is distinct, and will remain that way from infancy to elderly years. The rarity of individual fingerprints – and their lasting nature – is what makes them such great identification tools, as well.
As people age, their fingerprints fade and develop new lines.
While the pattern will remain the same, a fingerprint can fade overtime, making the lines and grooves less defined. An infant’s prints are full of very compact lines, but as they age into young adulthood, those prints become much clearer. An adult fingerprint begins to feature surface “life lines” from years of use, while the main lines and grooves will start to fade as the person becomes elderly. Wrinkles and scars can also impact the appearance of fingerprints as a person ages.
