It’s important to properly care for all of your Jewelry, whether you purchased it last week from a box store or it was handed down to you from your great-great-grandma.

Taking care of your Jewelry helps it to stay looking its best for as long as possible and preserve the beauty that makes your Jewelry so meaningful to you.

That’s why it’s even more important to care for your Jewelry when it’s personalized with something as precious as a Loved One’s fingerprint—like all of our custom Jewelry from Legacy Touch.

Featuring the fingerprint of a family member or friend, our personalized Jewelry is simple to care for so that it remains as beautiful and special as the day you received it. Continue reading to learn more about how to care for your personalized Jewelry:

Frequently Asked Questions About Caring for Personalized Fingerprint Jewelry

Can I Clean Fingerprint Jewelry?

Yes, you can clean Fingerprint Jewelry. Exact instructions will depend on what style of Jewelry you choose (for example, Lockets and Urn Pendants should never be submerged in water), and the metal type your Jewelry is made from. See below for an overview of instructions, or view a detailed guide to cleaning Fingerprint Jewelry here.

Can I Wear Fingerprint Jewelry in the Shower or Pool?

We recommend that you do not wear Fingerprint Jewelry in the shower or pool. Doing so can cause damage to the Jewelry.

Can I Resize My Fingerprint Jewelry?

Fingerprint Pendants, Charms, Dog Tags, and Lockets can all be resized by simply choosing a different chain length for your Jewelry.

Care Instructions for Fingerprint Jewelry from Legacy Touch

Caring for Legacy Touch Fingerprint Jewelry can be done by following the instructions provided below. You can also visit our care and warranty resource for more information.

Please Note: These care instructions pertain only to Jewelry purchased from Legacy Touch.

How to Care for Gold Fingerprint Jewelry

To care for Gold Fingerprint Jewelry (other than Lockets—see their instructions below), soak your Gold Keepsake for 20-30 minutes in a solution of warm water and mild dish washing soap. Gently clean with a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Rinse with lukewarm water to remove any soap residue. Do not put your Jewelry in contact with chlorine or other harsh chemicals or abrasives.

How to Care for Silver Fingerprint Jewelry

To care for Sterling Silver Fingerprint Jewelry (other than Lockets and Urn Pendants—please view those instructions below), wipe them clean or treat them with a silver tarnish remover, following all instructions. Tarnish remover should be followed with a warm, soapy wash, rinsed well, and towel dried.

How to Care for Brass, Stainless Steel, Titanium, or Anodized Aluminum Jewelry

For Brass, Stainless Steel, Titanium, or Anodized Aluminum Jewelry that is not Urn Pendants (see Urn Pendant care instructions below), use lukewarm water and mild dish washing soap. Soak your piece in the solution for approximately 5 minutes and then gently buff with a soft cloth. Rinse and allow to dry.

Tarnish on Brass and Stainless Steel can be cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth or mild polish formulated for the metal, following instructions. Please do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

How to Care for Enameled Jewelry

Enameled Jewelry, like our personalized Military Branch or First Responder Dog Tags, can be wiped clean with a soft, dry, non-abrasive cleaning cloth. You may occasionally use water and mild dish soap on the enamel and gently rub clean with your fingers, but do not scrub. Once you’re done, dry it with a soft cloth.

It’s important that you never steam clean or use ultrasonic cleaners, and do not polish as it may remove the plating on these enameled pieces.

How to Care for Lockets

Lockets, whether they’re Sterling Silver or Gold, can be gently wiped clean with a soft cloth.

Be sure to treat Locket hinges with care, as overextending them can stress the hinge (this includes excessive opening and closing of the Jewelry). You can have a local jeweler reinforce the hinge if you plan to open your Locket multiple times a day.

How to Care for Cremation Jewelry

Cremation Jewelry, including Urn Pendants, can be wiped clean with a soft cloth. If you’re caring for a Sterling Silver Urn Pendant, you can use a silver polishing cloth.

Please Note: All Cremation Jewelry from Legacy Touch comes with step-by-step instructions for filling the Jewelry with cremated remains and best practices for caring for your piece. Please read these carefully and follow all provided instructions.
